Top 3 ways to save money this halloween

Hi friends!

Jen & Jill here. As many of you know, we call the beautiful city of St. Petersburg, FL our home. Jen was literally born here!

In the last month, our community has been struck hard by both Hurricane Helene and Milton.

We want to let you know that we are both safe and our homes are (mostly) unharmed. We are thankful for our fortune and doing what we can to help our friends who weren’t as lucky.

You know we record episodes well in advance so this won’t affect anything with the publishing of the show Tue and Fri, and we’ll explain more about our experiences next time we record (which I believe will be for our Nov 8th episode.)

So for now, enjoy some Halloween saving tips that were written before either of these hurricanes were blips on the radar!

🎃 Top 3 Ways to Save Money This Halloween

1. Make costumes from what you already have in your house. ✂️ Why shell out big bucks for costumes when you can channel your inner MacGyver? Check your closet for items that can be repurposed into a fabulous getup, and raid your old make-up stash for some fun face-tuning. Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok are full of great inspiration here.

Pro-tip: it helps to start with a theme to land on some ideas. Have a brown dress and some twigs? Go as “Oh Dear!” Striped shirt? Beetlejuice, Waldo, or Pirate. My (Misti) personal favorite DIY costume? That time I made a last minute sticky sock costume with a black tank and construction paper for a Pure Barre costume competition—and won!

2. Team up for Trick-or-Treating.🍬 Be the host house for trick-or-treating amongst your friends and have your guests each bring a bag of candy to share with your visitors. Not only will you save on sweets, but you’ll also have a crowd to help keep the spooky spirit alive. Plus, you might even start a neighborhood trend that turns you into the coolest haunted house on the block!

3. Get creative with decorations. 🎨 Challenge yourself to not buy any more decorations and go full DIY on decor too. Use that old mop as a witch’s broom. Make mini jack-o-lanterns from orange peels. If it looks more “art project” than “haunted mansion,” you can always claim it’s modern art! And for next year, stock up on decorations after Halloween when everything’s on sale—your future self will thank you when you unearth a treasure trove of discount skeletons.
