Mindful & Meaningful Living in Frugality

This article by This Evergreen Home talks about how frugal living isn’t about deprivation, along with it also comes fun, fulfillment, and belongingness.

What Jen + Jill have to say:

Frugality, according to Jen and Jill, brings intentionality and contentment. Jen sees creativity as a higher need, so finding solutions without spending leads to the reward of satisfaction. She adds that it helps us shift on what truly matters, shaping a life that reflects who we are rather than impulsive buys.

Frugality also fosters gratitude, making life more meaningful. And when we value what we have, we find joy in simplicity. Jill adds that frugality reveals how some of life’s best things in life are free and that the little everyday moments is what gets us through the day.

The Real Thrill of Frugality

Frugality also highlights the excitement and satisfaction of making the most of what you have. Jill reframes the thrill of the hunt as the thrill of waiting. Finding deals is fun, but when it becomes a habit, it loses the purpose of frugality. She suggests practicing patience to make more confident decisions.

Jill recommends extending your creativity by building skills and confidence while saving because sometimes a 15-minute YouTube video is all it takes instead of hiring help or buying new. They also emphasize that frugality brings the freedom of financial security because every dollar you don’t spend is a dollar you can use in ways that truly align with your values.

Frugality Creates Connection

Jen and Jill highlight the benefits of how frugality and intentional living can bring people together. Because shared experiences create a sense of belonging, strengthening bonds and meaningful memories last longer than any material purchase. And when you are in a community that resonates with you and supports you, it inspires you to do more and be more.

What’s the most rewarding part of living frugally for you?

For Jen, it’s getting the work they do. While for Jill it’s the permission to consume less that leads  her to be less overwhelmed with life.

Gentle & Encouraging

I really can't say enough good things about this book. It's such a gentle and encouraging take on the psychology of why we spend money and how our decisions surrounding money are either helpful or not helpful in reference to our personal goals. This is the financial book that I wish I had read at the beginning of my journey with debt payoff and financial education. It has still come to me at a time when I needed a refresher course on why being intentional with my money matters. Both Jen and Jill (from the frugal friends podcast) knocked this one out of the park! A fantastic read. I highly recommend!!!
