Happy Wednesday!
Let’s take a quick break from holiday planning and shopping.
What if I told you there might be an unexpected gift waiting just for you: unclaimed money!! 💰
It might sound too good to be true, but the truth is a lot of people are unknowingly sitting on cash, checks, or other assets they’ve forgotten about.
And this season, you could be one of them!
If you’re looking for a little extra holiday cheer (and some extra cash to make your budget stretch a bit further), we’ve got a tip that could help you find those hidden treasures: the Missing Money website.
But first, another tip for a little more post-holiday cheer. 🥳
Curl up with Jen and Jill’s new book Buy What You Love Without Going Broke a spending guide that will help you enter the new year with money-management-confidence and the tips you need to curate your life to support your new habits. Pre-order today so you don’t have to wait!
And speaking of not waiting… there’s still time to sign up for the street team by December 2! If selected to join the team, you’ll get a FREE advanced copy of the book in exchange for leaving a review!
🕵🏼♀️ Can I Really Find Money Using the Missing Money Website?
Listen, friend, it’s not April 1st and we’re not practical jokesters (most of the time). So the short of it—YES, the Missing Money website is totally legit! In fact, the site is secure and government-endorsed.
The Missing Money website allows you to search for unclaimed property, bank accounts, old insurance policies, or even uncashed checks that might be waiting for you to claim. According to the website, 1 in 7 people have unclaimed property!!
📥 Claim your property in three easy steps:
1. Visit the Website here. 🔗 The tool is designed to reunite people with their money, but you still have to show up for it!
2. Start Your Search. 🔎 For the best results, type in your first and last name. You may have more unclaimed property under different names or addresses, so be thorough in your search and don’t forget to include all states you’ve lived in. Weeding through the results may feel a bit confusing at first because some folks may have similar information as you. Just pay close attention to the details!
3. Claim Your Property. ✅ If you find something that belongs to you, follow the instructions to claim your funds. Each state has a slightly different process, but generally, you’ll need to provide proof of identity (like a driver’s license) and, in some cases, proof of address. It can take a few weeks to process, but it’s worth the wait!
📌 Obvious pro-tip here: don’t forget to actually SUBMIT any forms you fill out. Unlike Misti, who found $14.21 in refunds from a medical center and Verizon back in August but still hasn’t sent in the form. 🙃
Now that you’ve found your unexpected gift from past versions of yourself, drop those funds into a High Yield Savings Account for another gift (the gift of compound interest). We love the one at CIT, who’s still offering 4.35% APY on their savings connect account! **
Spending is a skill and you can learn to master it. If you’ve ever struggled with being unable to stick to a budget or felt guilty about spending on something you enjoy, Jen and Jill’s upcoming book is going to be your next favorite read.

Catch you later,
