Is it filled with inspiring feasts or just artificial crumbs? In this episode, Jen and Jill are joined by Anthony O’Neal of The TABLE as they explore how identifying the right mentors and embracing vulnerability can help create a powerful circle of influence.

No, not punching a wall in the hall but actually decking the halls with an amount of decor that feels right for you and not too much just because you are being influenced by social media. Anthony O’Neal is a #1 national bestselling author of Debt-Free Degree, personal finance expert and host of the popular podcast and YouTube show “The TABLE.” Since 2014 he has challenged cultural norms and equipped millions of people to live a debt-free life, break generational wealth-gaps and build true wealth. Finding Mentorship to Our Table

Anthony explains that finding authentic financial mentorship doesn’t always mean direct interaction. We can learn from other individuals, even from afar. But the secret is finding mentors whose lives reflect the principles they teach, so thoroughly research their credibility, especially in an age where artificial intelligence can make anyone appear like an expert.

He also highlights that learning is one thing, but applying the lessons to your life makes a real difference. Whether through books, podcasts, or other resources, the path to financial wisdom starts with taking steps based on guides with proof and fruits.

See the Best in the Closest Ones

When looking at who to approach first, Anthony suggests starting with who’s already around us—our immediate circle. He emphasized that everyone has something valuable to offer, so take the time to gather the wisdom they bring to the table.

Anthony also reminds us that before seeking a mentor or diving into books and podcasts, get clear on the mission. A focused vision makes it much easier to spot the mentors and resources aligning with our goals. It’s like having a compass for your personal growth journey.

Bringing the Right People to the Table

It starts with a clear vision. Anthony shares his story when he realized he wanted to help minorities and the less fortunate break free from debt. He identified two mentors he admired, both rooted in spiritual faith and financial expertise, and reached out with genuine intentions.

When they met, he didn’t try to impress or brag, but rather, he stayed humble and focused on building a lasting mentorship. Because here’s the thing: impressing a mentor isn’t the goal. It’s about learning, growing, and fostering a relationship that aligns with your mission.

Embracing Vulnerability

Anthony agrees that community can have a significant impact on our finances, especially when it comes to mentorship. If we’re seeking guidance in our financial journey, it’s natural that we feel a little vulnerable. But growth comes from honesty about our flaws and weaknesses because that’s where real change happens.

For him, if we want to build wealth, we’ve got to put ourselves out there, lay it all on the table, and let someone guide us, even if it feels uncomfortable. Vulnerability is the first step toward progress.

Who is someone that’s positively impacted how you manage your finances?

For Anthony, it’s Dave Ramsey. For Jill, it’s Jen; and for Jen, it’s her husband, Travis.

Very Helpful and Interesting

I just discovered this podcast and listened to the episode about getting free stuff. I’ve been in a Buy Nothing group for a couple of years and their explanation of the concept was perfect! I really appreciated all the other sources given and the way these two women are friendly, super normal and chill, fun, well informed and interesting to listen to.
