Defining What You Value
Jill reveals that figuring out what you love begins with the right mindset and perspective. This involves understanding that spending is a skill we can improve. It means learning what you truly value, prioritizing those values, and finding creative alternatives to afford what you love.
Along with that comes the importance of understanding the role of values in our spending. Jen and Jill explored the concepts of the 4F’s (Faith, Family, Friends, Fulfilling Work) and the Hierarchy of Needs. They discussed how these concepts relate to your spending habits and how most impulse spending often aims to fulfill these internal or external needs.
Finding Out What We Value
Everyone has personal values that differ from others. Jen reminds us to be honest with ourselves and to ask questions from a place of curiosity, without judgment, to identify what we truly value. Instead of questioning our actions, it’s better to consider the deeper ‘why’ of what led us to act in such a way.
One more thing is the 90-day transaction inventory. This involves reviewing expenses over the last 90 days to identify patterns in our spending. This overview can help us reflect on our spending decisions and adjust them according to where our values lie.
When You Can’t Afford Everything You Value
Honor your season! Jen suggests that you won’t value the same things with the same intensity throughout your life. Some things will fall away as priorities shift, but recognizing these changes helps you be more intentional about what you value and how you prioritize those values.
Simple luxury you love to splurge on? What do you do when you cannot afford it?
Jen loves runDisney half marathons! When she can’t afford them, she simply watches Disney movies at home. For Jill, she is going out to eat once a week, but when she can’t, she simply cooks and spices up food at home.
Bill of The Week
Thank you Jessie for sharing your bill about getting your doctor for free! Tuition reimbursement and scholarship/grants were key!

I’M NOT BORED
Because this podcast reminds me that saving money can be just as fun as spending it. I love having these two frugalities yelling at me to be more thoughtful about how I spend my money, and ways that I can continue to save. It also keeps me pumped and motivated while I spend evenings and weekends slaving away on home renovations. I signed into Apple podcasts and learned how to write a review for the sake of this podcast. If you like to be NOT BORED this is the podcast for you!
