It’s okay to be okay with a little imperfection!

  • Trash. It’s not so bad when it’s actually a treasure! Like your stale bread that you don’t want anymore but I will gladly make croutons out of. Or that painting that’s about to be thrown away that is perfectly gaudy, or the plant clippings on the ground at home depot that I’m definitely gonna propagate. Trash—it’s not always junk and you claim that second hand treasure more easily with Beni—free browser extension that allows you to find clothing and accessories on second hand sites.

How to Second-hand Shop Online

This article by Emma Sarran Webster examines the expert’s do’s and don’ts when it comes to shopping second-hand items online.

What Jen + Jill have to say:

When buying second-hand items, you are not necessarily buying cheap stuff. In fact, you are buying high-quality items—but for a good deal. When looking online, Jen highlights the importance of being cautious of items that seem too good to be true. Therefore, attention to detail, reading reviews, researching, and avoiding being misled by greenwashing are essential.

Jill also points out an important reminder: we are not required to have a picture-perfect lifestyle where all clothes, furniture, and items are brand new and we should not be pressured to! Hence, embracing imperfection can help us get the things we want for half the price!

Best Online Thrift Stores for Every Style and Budget

This article by Quincy Bulin explores the best online thrift stores for every style, every budget, and every thing.

What Jen + Jill have to say:

Jen and Jill agree that lifestyle is different for each of us, and therefore we have different tastes and needs. Luckily, there are various online shops you can browse that offer the best items depending on your lifestyle.

Jen and Jill share 12 online shops you can choose from that contain everything from wishlist items, like Poshmark—considered one of the best online thrift stores—to high-end brands like Vestiaire Collective, which offers a wide range of prices and payment plans, and many more.

What types of secondhand items do you typically purchase online? What would you never?

Jen is likely to buy anything secondhand, such as couches, bunk beds, mattresses, rugs, lamps, tables, and clothes, except underwear, socks, bathing suits, or running shoes. On the other hand, Jill and her partner frequently get their electronics—like refurbished phones, computers, cables, and music equipment—from secondhand sources online. However, she has reservations about buying clothes second-hand because she fears they might not fit her.
