How to Take Care of Your Clothes & Help Your Simplified Wardrobe Last Longer

In this article, Simple Lion Heart Life shares ways how to extend the life of our clothing, simplifying our wardrobe, and making it last longer. These are only small tips but will surely help your clothes last for a long time.

What Jen + Jill have to say:

Regardless of our wardrobe size, we tend only to wear the same small selection of our favorite items. It’s even said that most people wear about 20% of their clothes 80% of the time–chances are what you’re wearing is already your simplified wardrobe. Jill suggests using less heat, taking simple steps to protect our clothes (such as when washing clothes, zip zippers, button buttons, putting delicates in mesh bags, turning printed clothes inside out), and storing clothes properly (allowing airflow, pulling arms up over the hung clothes). Also, when storing for the season, fully dry and seal the container to avoid mold and bug issues.

Jen wishes we would buy as good of quality as we can afford. If you’re still buying from the cheapest fast fashion clearance items repeatedly, those things aren’t going to last long compared to better quality fabrics. Jen also shares how she wears her pajamas for a week as she only washes when clothes are dirty and has been treating stains before they set.

How To Fix A Hole In Clothes Without Sewing

When we’re repairing our clothes, we usually think there’s only one solution: sewing. However, this article suggests alternatives for you to fix the hole in your clothes without sewing. Remember, this is only an overview that will be useful for you to remember once you encounter a hole in your clothes.

What Jen + Jill have to say:

Patching is a tricky alternative to fixing a hole in your clothes; as Jen suggests, you might want to use the patch from the same fabric to obtain the same results. You might also want to buy hemming tape, an adhesive solution that you can substitute for sewing.

On the other hand, Jill introduces a solution called “The Disappearing Act” or “Fusing Web,” which you can buy from the crafts store. You can use it for appliques and quilts but also for fixing the hole in your clothes. You will need an iron and parchment paper for this alternative.

What we hate most about laundry

Jen hates folding as she does the ‘Konmari Folding,’ so it takes time, yet it also allows her to place her clothes facing up. Jill doesn’t mind folding because it’s one thing you can do while sitting; however, re-making the bed is something she hates the most. It’s one of the reasons why she waits so long to wash her sheets.

I am READY.

For *my* Christmas present, I am going to ask my husband to choose one of the book club books to read together. I have been looking for a way to share some of the financial “load” with him (and tbh, getting a little pushback…),, and this is a great way!

UPDATE: He said “yes” to a “just us” book club!!!
